Beneficiaries of Lottery Funds

For more than 35 years, revenue generated from lottery tickets sales has provided financial contributions to the New Jersey educational community and to our State-sponsored institutions. The New Jersey Lottery is proud of its support of the vital services provided for the developmentally disabled residents of our State by the Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities .

The Department serves more than 37,000 people with developmental disabilities including: mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, spinal bifida, traumatic brain injuries and certain neurological impairments. The Department of Human Services (DHS) operates seven developmental centers, which serve approximately 3,000 people. More than 10,000 people with developmental disabilities live in DHS-licensed community residences including group homes, supervised apartments, supported living programs and skill development homes.

Most people served by the DHS’ programs for the developmentally disabled live at home with a family member. More than 24,000 people receive support services including respite care and day programming services so they can continue to live with their families.

DHS launched a new approach to service delivery called Real Life Choices because more families continue to request non-traditional in-home services. Real Life Choices provides more innovative options for in-home supports while helping to keep families together as long as possible.
