New Jersey Lottery Benefits Education and Institutions

New Jersey Lottery Fiscal Year 2013 Revenue Distribution

The New Jersey Lottery is the State's fourth largest revenue producer. In Fiscal Year 2013, the Lottery grossed over $2.8 billion in sales and contributed 34% of sales, more than $1 billion, to the State, in support of its beneficiaries. The New Jersey Lottery contributions help fund education and institutions making everyone in the Garden State a winner.

Since its inception in 1970, the Lottery has dedicated $22 billion to programs that benefit millions of New Jersey residents. Community Colleges, Universities, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the School Nutrition Program, and the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf are just a few of the organizations and programs whose constituencies benefit from Lottery proceeds.

The New Jersey Lottery also plays a key role in supporting businesses throughout the State. At the end of Fiscal Year 2013 there were more than 6,600 Lottery retailer licenses issued, up from 6,500 the prior year. Retailers are vital to the success and growth of the Lottery. Retailers are the public face of the lottery brand and provide customer service and product support. In return, retailers earn five percent commission on their lottery ticket sales in addition to ticket cashing bonuses and special product promotion bonuses. In Fiscal Year 2013, the Lottery returned more than $157 million, up from $153 million, in commissions to its retail business partners throughout the State.
